THE WINE:

One of the most revered appellations in France and indeed the world, Meursault is renowned for its idiosyncratic style of white Burgundy embodying elegance, fragrance and richness. This single-varietal Chardonnay is no exception, offering attractive notes of citrus fruits, honey and white flowers on the nose. Complex and profound on the palate with classy minerality, the finish is simultaneously fresh and rounded.

THE ART:

Miquel Barceló, In Extremis IV – 1994

Mixed media on canvas – 240 x 290 cm – © Atelier Barceló – 1994

The contemporary style of Miquel Barceló, his still life paintings in particular, are steeped in artistic traditions. Distinct from the lush and plush style of Renaissance still life in Italy and the Low Countries, Spanish Baroque still life was often allegorical of mortality with a hint of surrealism. Splendid and sumptuous as this painting is, the themes of time and metamorphosis are evident, if with a nostalgic sense and a touch of bucolic sensitivity.
