ABRUZZO | ITALY
The Abruzzo region between Italy's Apennine Mountains and the Adriatic coast was never famous for the quality of its wines. Mostly of the wines produced thin, sharp reds and whites made from the red Montepulciano and white Trebbiano grapes. In the past 30 years however, one name have stood out: Gianni Masciarelli. One who drew his winemaking inspiration from France and sought to modernise a very rustic part of Italy.
