TUSCANY | ITALY

Deriving from a recently leased vineyard sporting white clay soils and located downslope of Cerbaiona’s existing holdings, this Rosso di Montalcino was earmarked as a Brunello, but as it evolved, its makers saw an opportunity to craft a rich, evocative and powerful Rosso di Montalcino. 2016 saw a high quality, low production harvest of ripe, aromatic and balanced grapes. This wine evokes its growing year and its terroir in its texture and its intensity--and it reflects its makers’ careful protocol in its detail and precision. Ripe dark fruits, notes of telltale Montalcino underbrush and herbs, nimble acidity, and satisfying tannins make this Rosso di Montalcino drink like a true “baby Brunello.” A blend of the best organically grown grapes, this Rosso spends about 18 months in barrel before bottling (regulations require that Brunello spends two years in barrel, making this wine akin to Montalcino’s more famous sibling).
